12th Death Anniversary Ceremony for Reverend Handa Shonin Sama
On Sunday 19th August, I attended the 12th Death Anniversary Ceremony for Reverend Handa Shonin Sama who died at the Buddhist Temple in Willen.
This started at 10 am with prayers by the Monks and Nuns of Nipponzan
Myohoji, followed by Chanting and Prayers from other Buddhist traditions and also multi-faith prayers.
There were speeches in memory of Revd. Handa, and in memory of the victims of natural disasters and nuclear catastrophe, looking forward in the hope of a bright and peaceful future.
Revd. Handa had an unceasing wish that all of the children of the world would grow up in a world that is free from threats of war and of nuclear contamination.
More than this, however he knew that a truly peaceful world can only come about if the hearts of people can be changed, so that respect replaces self-interest and compassion replaces anger.
Until the day when his vision is realised, the Monks and Nuns of Nipponzan Myohoji continue Revd. Handa's work.

Yoga Group
There is now a Yoga group for residents and staff from Camphill Milton Keynes to go to. It happens in the Chrysalis Theatre every Tuesday.
Yoga is quickly becoming one of the most popular, if not the most popular, workout regime among those who are looking to gain flexibility, strength and even lose weight. It can be done from the privacy of your home or in a classroom. Yoga is great for reducing stress and allowing for greater relaxation. Once you get into Yoga though, you learn that it is so much more than just a way to workout and keep in shape. It is a philosophy, a passion and a way of life for many of those involved in Yoga. While you may be getting into yoga for the exercise, you may soon find yourself wrapped in the philosophy and spirituality that Yoga brings a long with it.
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental well being. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing.
The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago and has been adapted in other countries in a variety of ways. Yoga is now commonplace in leisure centres, health clubs, schools, hospitals and surgeries.
