On Tuesday 6th August, there was the Lantern Floating
Ceremony at the Peace Pagoda at Willen in Milton Keynes.
All were welcome to commemorate the victims of Hiroshima by
floating lanterns on Willen Lake. There was a ceremony at the Buddhist Temple at 7.30pm
which lasted for an hour which included reflective music, water sprinkling and
blessing, chanting and offering of incense and also interfaith prayers for
peace.
After the ceremony had finished at the temple, there was the
procession and floating of the candle-lit lanterns on Willen Lake.
The ceremony sought to reflect on the horrors of war in an
atomic age and to pray together for peace and harmony between all people and
nations.
