Hiroshima Day Lanterns

NA MU MYO HO REN GE KYO
On Wednesday 6th August, there was the Hiroshima Day Lanterns at the Japanese Buddhist Temple in Willen.
This ceremony sought to reflect on the horrors of war in an atomic age, to remember those who have died, and to pray together for peace and harmony between all people and nations.
All were welcome to join and float a candle on Willen Lake.
The United States detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August 1945, respectively. The two bombings killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the only use of nuclear weapons in armed conflict.

Willen Lake Summer Funfair

These are some photographs of me going to Willen Lake Summer Funfair.
A funfair is an event held in a park or field at which people pay to ride on various machines for amusement or try to win prizes in games. The people who organize and operate it usually take it from one place to another. We all love to frighten ourselves by going on hair-raising rides at funfairs.

Barbecue

A barbecue (BBQ) refers to the act of cooking food, particuliarly meat, slowly over low, indirect heat using live fire, smoke, or coals, often with the goal of making it tender and imparting a smoky flavour. The term also describes the outdoor meal or party where this food is served, the portable grill or device used for cooking, and the broader cuisine that results from this cooking method. The word "barbecue" itself comes from the Taino word barbacoa, referring to a wooden frame for smoking and cooking meat.
Barbecue as a Cooking Method
  • Low and Slow Heat:
Unlike grilling, which is typically high-heat and fast, barbecuing involves cooking food at a lower temperature for an extended period.
  • Indirect Heat:
  • The food is often cooked using indirect heat, meaning it is not directly over the heat source.
  • Smoke and Flavor:
  • The use of wood or charcoal creates smoke that imparts a distinct flavor to the food.
  • Tenderization:
  • The slow cooking process makes tougher cuts of meat tender and easy to chew.
