On Monday 2nd June, The Chrysalis Theatre in
Camphill Milton Keynes held a practice fire evacuation. The Chrysalis had asked David Pibworth (who
is the director of Milton Keynes Theatre of Comedy) to provide the audience
with a magic show. The audience needed to be made up of 209 volunteers. The
Chrysalis Theatre had teamed up with Willen Hospice (a charity which provides
specialist palliative care and support for families) to mark the start of
National Volunteer Week. It was explained that they needed our ‘#TimeNotMoney’. While
David Pibworth was performing his show, the fire alarm was set of and Martina
Fiserova, who is the theatre manager explained were the fire exits were and
that we should assemble outside of the front on the Chrysalis Theatre. This practice fire evacuation was planned in order to review the theatre’s
evacuation procedure. There were lots of refreshments of cakes and teas and
coffee before and after the fire evacuation in the foyer of the Chrysalis
Theatre. I thought this event was important because we know what do if there
was a real fire.
