Fun Fair

These are some photographs of me going to Willen Lake Summer Funfair.

A funfair is an event held in a park or field at which people pay to ride on various machines for amusement or try to win prizes in games. The people who organize and operate it usually take it from one place to another. We all love to frighten ourselves by going on hair-raising rides at funfairs.

Hiroshima Day Lanterns

NA MU MYO HO REN GE KYO

On Friday 6th August, there was the Hiroshima Day Lanterns at the Japanese Buddhist Temple in Willen.

This ceremony sought to reflect on the horrors of war in an atomic age, to remember those who have died, and to pray together for peace and harmony between all people and nations.

All were welcome to join and float a candle on Willen Lake.

The United States detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August 1945, respectively. The two bombings killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the only use of nuclear weapons in armed conflict.

Museum of The Moon by Luke Jerram

On Friday 23rd July, residents and staff from Camphill Milton Keynes went to see The Museum of The Moon by Luke Jerram.

Luke Jerram’s artwork Museum of the Moon was set outdoors within Milton Keynes’ spectacular Tree Cathedral from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th July.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the Moon featured 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represented 5km of the Moon’s surface.

The installation was a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Luke Jerram’s multidisciplinary practice involves the creation of sculptures, installations and live arts projects. Living in the UK but working internationally for 19 years, Jerram has created a number of extraordinary art projects which have excited and inspired people around the globe. Jerram has a set of different narratives that make up his practice which are developing in parallel with one another. He is known worldwide for his large-scale public artworks.
